Well-meant is far from being well done: supporters of the animal park in Tannenkamp wanted to put an end to the shadowy existence of the Mühlensteinpark in Wolgast-Nord. The well over 200 exhibits should no longer be overgrown with grass, but instead should be presented in the zoo in the future with the greatest possible publicity.

But the implementation of the project has so far gone wrong. Because: Not all of the objects removed from the grounds on Dr.-Theodor-Neubauer-Straße arrived at the zoo. And those artifacts that found their way into the Tannenkamp were tipped over so that large and small parts chipped off here and there. Another proper part of the exhibits was sorted out and is now stored as a heap on the site of the municipal building depot on Ziesaberg. Several of these objects have been damaged by the rough, improper handling.

The State Office for Culture and Monument Conservation in Schwerin has become aware of the way in which Wolgast deals with the valuable archaeological finds. "It is very unfortunate what happened here," says Dr. Michael Schirren, Head of Archeology and Monument Conservation. He knows the Mühlensteinpark in Wolgast-Nord according to his own statement. "These are movable ground monuments."

Schirren does not want to speculate, but wants to clarify exactly what happened in Wolgast. "I handed the matter over to the district as a regulatory authority," he says. There it should be determined why the park was cleared, who arranged this and on what basis found objects were sorted out. "Who had the technical expertise to say: this is worth preserving and that can go away?" Asks Schirren. Expertise apparently played no role in this decision.

The cultural property was once collected by the volunteer conservationist Peter Wussow. “The finds come from the Swinoujscie, Anklam and Greifswald areas, among others,” reports the 81-year-old Wolgaster. From the 1960s, when the LPG'n collected the stones from their usable areas and disposed of them in Sölle, for example, he, his family and friends would have made many rare discoveries. The collection was also the result of field inspections in the Wolgast and Usedom area.
